FEARING BAD NEWS FROM GOD
Updated: Mar 4, 2020
Thanks to the Holy Spirit, I've realized that I tend to dread God's presence. Today, sitting at my desk at work, I was being still for a minute and became aware of Jesus' presence. And as I became aware of Him, I started to say in my head, "Is it Eli? Is it Patrik?" and I was asking God if something was wrong with them. To be completely honest, I often tend to think that God is letting me sense His presence because something is wrong with somebody who I love and He is preparing me to hear the bad news. This exact scenario happens often in my mind. It's ridiculous. Where do those thoughts even come from? How have my thoughts about why He shows Himself to me become so warped? As I started to realize what was happening in my mind, Jesus stepped in to those dread drenched thoughts and He said to me, "Stop expecting bad news when you become aware of Me!" and I then His love enfolded me.
We believe so many lies about God. Lord Jesus, thank you for the freedom from our thoughts that condemn and separate us from you. We were separated from Him in our own minds but He wants to show us how He has reconciled us to Himself through His love. Colossians 1:20-21 "He initiated the reconciliation of all things to himself. Through the blood of the cross God restored the original harmony. His reign of peace now extends to every visible thing upon the earth as well as those invisible things which are in the heavenly realm. Your indifferent mindset alienated you from God into a lifestyle of annoyances, hardships and labors. Yet he has now fully reconciled and restored you to your original design." (The Mirror Bible)
When these thoughts come, catch them up and hand them over to God. The way to fight these battles is to feast on Jesus' love and presence and to listen to Him as you enjoy and lift Him above every fear, worry and doubt.
2 Corinthians 10:5 says, "We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One." Don't be afraid. He is for you, not against you.
